SBC Equipping Hour Classes Winter 2025
Jesus calls us to be disciples who are making disciples (Matt. 28:19-20). He expects local church leaders to “equip the saints for the work of the ministry” (Eph. 4:11-12).
All classes are open to anyone from Middle School on up unless noted in the description.
1. Family ID - Ben Reed, Facilitator
This class will challenge families to live with intentional purpose. Far too often, culture, media, and even those around us try to tell us who we should be. With so many voices attempting to shape our values, it can be difficult to stay on course and live lives that reflect what is most important to us. Through this course, you will begin to intentionally lay a foundation that will help ensure success in our most important ministry - your family! We will use videos and a workbook to discover your family’s Intentional Direction.
2.Vertical Marriage - Tim and Lauren Haas, Facilitators
For anyone who is married, preparing for marriage, or desperate to save a relationship teetering on the brink of divorce, this class will offer hope and strategies gleaned from personal experience from the authors and Scripture that really work. Vertical Marriage will guide you toward building a vibrant relationship at every level including communication, conflict, intimacy, and romance, and provide insight, applications, and inspiration to transform your marriage into everything you hoped it would be.
3.God’s Voice in the Stars - Josh Williams, Facilitator
Based on the book by Ken Fleming, a study on how the stars and constellations tell the gospel story and how they were placed and named by God for that purpose. The book is not required for class as we will be covering the major points in class.
4.Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age (Book Club) - Andy Wang, Elisabeth Reese, and a bit of Pastor Justin, Facilitators. In her powerful book Five Lies of Our Anti-Christian Age, Butterfield uses Scripture to confront 5 common lies about sexuality, faith, feminism, gender roles, and modesty often promoted in our secular culture today. Rosaria speaks from her own experience as a formerly militant anti-Christian lesbian and outspoken feminist, in order to teach and encourage other Christians to walk boldly in the truth of God's Word. This class will be reading sections of the book and discussing perspectives on these topics. Please obtain a copy of the book before the first class, where we will lay out a reading plan. This class is for both men & women -- blurbs about the book may seem to imply that it is written FOR women, but the content is extremely relevant to all.
5. Equipping Men to Impact the World - Brennen Sullivan, Logan Blyler, & Steve Yingst, Facilitators.
Men, are you ready to step up and lead? God has brought gifted men to Salem to impact the world for Him in powerful ways. We need you to help empower these men to live out God’s great calling for their lives. Like Jesus, who invested in a small group of men and sent them to spread His kingdom, we invite you to learn how to become an effective men's small group leader who does the same. All men are welcome to join us!
